iPhone or Android?

Are the new Android phones threatening to overtake the i phone or will Apple stay ahead? It seems that when the competition gets anywhere close to the iPhone, Apple leaps further ahead with a new improved version. Even though the iPhone 4 seems to have been in the stores for a short time, there is already talk about the fifth generation of iPhones and speculation as to what new innovations it will have.

There seems to be no cooling of our love affair with the iPhone. Sales of the handset continue to grow as do as do application downloads. Apple has now passed a major milestone in the app market; over ten billion app downloads have now been made from the Apple App Store. In fact the actual ten billionth download was ‘Paper Glider’ which is a free App.

Naturally the market has been aided by the iPad, but still the majority of downloads have been for the iPhone. It is also interesting to note that 70% of downloaded apps have been made over the last twelve months.

Despite all this, the new Android phones are causing a bit of a stir amongst Apple investors and the share price of Apple has been having a fairly rocky ride of late. Investors seem to be getting cold feet and have expressed concern that Apple may not be able to maintain its technological dominance of the smartphone market in the future. Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple and the inspiration behind the whole drive of the company has been experiencing problems with his health and the does not seem to be a clear successor to him, certainly no one with his outstanding drive and vision.

In terms of uses of these phones, their opinions seem to be polarised and subjective. The iPhone scores higher for items such as music and games, whilst the Android phones score higher when it comes to integration with Google applications such as Google Maps. As both types of phone are at the leading edge of technology, completion between them can only be of benefit to users.
